Knowing God...
There are very few believers who have a passion to know God Himself. Most of them seem to be keen only on increasing in Bible-knowledge and on having spectacular emotional experiences.
All this is an indication that we have come to the very last minutes of the last hour of the last days in which Paul said it would be "difficult to be a Christian" (2 Tim.3:1 - Living). It will be difficult to be a Christian in the last days, not because of persecution or opposition, but because many people would "have a form of godliness without its inner power" (2 Tim.3:5).

"When Jesus comes to reward His servants,
Whether it be noon or night,
Faithful to Him will He find us watching,
With our lamps all trimmed and bright?
O can we say we are ready, brother?
Ready for the soul’s bright home?
Say, will He find you and me still watching,
Waiting, waiting when the Lord shall come?
If, at the dawn of the early morning,
He shall call us one by one,
When to the Lord we restore our talents,
Will He answer thee—“Well done”?
Have we been true to the trust He left us?
Do we seek to do our best?
If in our hearts there is naught condemns us,
We shall have a glorious rest.
Blessed are those whom the Lord finds watching,
In His glory they shall share;
If He shall come at the dawn or midnight,
Will He find us watching there?"

Amen...that was good to read again. Your mom forwarded me that whole article of Zac Poonen's, and the very section you quoted was the exact part that stuck out to me the most! :-) It was challenging to be reminded yet another time.
The last part about the difficulty being a Christian in the last days is so profound. It sure can be a confusing world to live in, but by God's grace, HIS wisdom and discernment will overrule the subtle snares satan is constantly trying to trip us up with.
Thanks for the blessing! I especially enjoyed the song. What a gem....I've never heard it before! Fanny Crosby sure had some amazing insights!
God bless!

That was a pretty good excerpt. I've heard of Zac Poonen but never read him. I haven't heard that Crosby song before either. I guess I probably shouldn't be surprised; I think she was pretty prolific.
Anyhow, back on the topic, I've been thinking exactly about this. We sing "O, to be like Thee," and value some form of godliness. But do we really want the life of Christ, or just the lifestlye of Christ? We don't just need the characteristics of Christ, but the Person of Christ.
Nothing good will come of myself, even decked out in the trappings of godliness. What I need is the Spirit, because only the fruit of the SPIRIT is profitable. What we need is "He must increase, and I must decrease," and "Not my will, but Thine be done."
Thanks for sharing this, brother! Peace. --Jacob
