Do you love the World???

Do you love the world, in its pomp and show?
In its course of sin will you onward go?
Is the pride of life more than heav’n above?
Will you lose your soul for the sins you love?

Refrain:
Do you love the world? Will you selfish be,
When the Lord provides everything for thee?
Can you still refuse? Will you come and bow?
Give your heart and life to His service now?

Do you love the world, its applause and fame?
Soon ’twill end in sorrow, remorse, and shame;
Jesus bids you come and redeem your soul
From its awful doom, ere the judgments roll.

Do you love the world? Is it dear to thee?
Can it help thy soul in eternity?
Will you choose its way more than godly fear,
Sealing thus your doom, when the Lord is near?

Do you love the world more than Christ who died?
How the blood flowed free from His pierced side!
When it cost His life to prepare that place,
Will you die in sin, and refuse His grace?

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15

  • I've never heard that song before. I'll have to look it up!

How applicable to so many situations...sacrificing truth for the sake of conformity is far too common these days.

  • Amen!
"...Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." James 4:4

When I think about examples of people, (biblical times until today) who walked with God, who called Him their dearest Friend, while He even called them His friends, there's always one common thread: the world, and the things of the world, were of no value whatsoever to them. When God told Abraham to "get up and go," and leave his - well, his everything, really - he obeyed. What did Jesus tell His disciples? "Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I have commanded of you." John 15:14
"Love not the world," is certainly a commandment.
    :)
Praise be to God, for His commandments are not "grievous," but joyous, because we know what a great Friend we have in Jesus, and in the end, what He has prepared for them that love Him, and wait for Him:
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the ressurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:"
    1Peter 1:4-7
(I'd love to go on with the rest of the chapter :D....)

May we never be ashamed to "plainly declare" that we are strangers and pilgrims on this earth, seeking "a better country." (Hebrews 11:13-16)

So Amen, again, and thanks for the inspiration and exhortation...!
(Oh, and I'm sorry for how long those verses made this comment... it was kind of bursting out of me :P :D)
